OPGW Splicing and Contracting Services

Broadline

An Optical fiber Service Provider with expertise and excellence in field operation

Broadline incorporated in 1991, headquartered at Chennai, India provides a complete spectrum of OFC and networking solutions to all parts of India and Abroad. We serve almost all the Power Transmission companies and Telecom Companies for their Various project sites in all the states of India and abroad.

Broadline OFC Technology Wing is an exclusive Optical Fiber Cable Technology solution provider, consisting of young and dynamic engineers having experience in the field of Fiber Optic Cabling, trenching, blowing, Splicing AND Testing, etc. Various activities carried out are as under:

  • Open Trenching (excavation of earth) from 1 to 1.6 meters depth.
  • HDD trenching (Horizontal Directional Drilling process).
  • Laying of the duct – as per the specific requirement of the client.
  • Duct Proving – to ensure no blockage in the duct.
  • Testing of the OFC kept in drums – Pre-installation test.
  • Blowing of the Optical Fiber Cable into the duct by using Air Compressors.
  • Splicing/termination of the OFC at nominated junctions and in Sub-Stations as per the specification of the client.
  • Splicing & jointing of OPGW (Optical Parallel Ground Wire), after stringing of the OFC in the Towers.
  • Point to point testing of the joints with OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer).
  • Final Link Test to establish the connectivity from one end to the other end of a particular stretch.
  • Generation of various Test Reports.

Trenching

We provide excellent service for duct laying – both by open trenching (excavation of earth) and by HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling), without resorting to open trenching.

We have executed major works of trenching, duct-laying, blowing of OFC and Splicing/terminations for clients like Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd., in West Bengal (180 kms)and in Tamil Nadu (150 kms), Reliance East West Pipeline at Hyderabad (250 kms) and also for Indian Oil Corporation (Chennai-Trichy Pipeline project – 350 kms), apart from providing similar services for different Telecom firms in India.

We have our own Optical fibre Jointing Machinery and testing equipments required for the above work in India and abroad . We have mobilized them for similar work at Gulf , Africa and othe parts of Asia . Qualified and competent resources are available on our rolls for carrying out trenching of all kinds.

Splicing (Jointing of OFC) by Fusion method.

We are following the internationally acknowledged splicing technology viz., Fusion Method, which is briefly explained as under:-

“Splicing is used to permanently join two optical fibers where no additional changes are expected to be made to those fibers at that junction. In fusion splicing the two fibers are literally welded or fused together with a Fusion Splicing Machine. This makes for a strong joint that exhibits very low loss and virtually no reflection.” Once a splice has been, it often needs to be measured to find out the splice loss at that joint.

OPGW (Optical Parallel Ground Wire) Splicing

OPGW ,by Broadline from Chennai OPGW cable is the short form of Optical Fiber Composite Overhead Ground Wire. OPGW cable is used for installation on new power lines with double function of ground wire and communication, especially for installation on normal voltage and extra high voltage power lines.

There will be two ends of OPGW cable at the Transmission Tower; these two ends are brought down from the tower, splicing is down at both ends of the OPGW in the joint box and fixed at the top level of the tower. Here also it is the same fusion splicing method.

Continuity Test to ensure prescribed standards OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer)

An OTDR is a specialized test instrument for optical fiber. It is a very useful tool in that it provides a representative picture of the fiber and only requires access to one end of the fiber. An OTDR is the best method of measuring the loss of an individual splice. The industry recognizes that the most accurate measurement of actual splice loss is the average of a 2-way (bidirectional) OTDR test.

Light source and Optical Power Meter Test :

This is useful for checking the optical power in performing link-loss testing or trouble-shooting.

Polarisation mode dispersion test (PMD):

The polarization mode dispersion is the basis property of single mode fibers. It affects the magnitude of the transmission rate. PMD results from the difference of propagation speeds of the energy of a given wave length which splits into two polarization access that at right angle to each other.

Chromatic Dispersion Test (CD Test)

Chromatic dispersion occurs because light pulses made up of different wave lengths, each traveling at different wave lengths down the length of fiber. These different propagation speed broaden the light pulse when it arrives at the receiver, reducing the signal to noise ration and increasing the bit error.

We have completed many Major projects of  OPGW joints – one at Saudi Arabia  and another one at Ethiopia for  Power Transmission Company  very recently and are working on many Projects in India and abroad.
We are currently working on an overseas project at Kenya ffor about 350 OPGW joints – the client being  in Kenya Power .
